What I'm trying to do here is put together a page where you can buy all the same parts that I have used in my projects. With low overheads and buying in bulk I can get the price lower than your local store plus you will know that the part is correct for following one of our online projects.
Arduino Uno V3 + Cable

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) This is the latest version of the popular Arduino micro-processor board. It contains the MEGA328P & the ATMEGA16U2 chips.
We even give you a free USB cable with each board. We have used this same version board in our Technic-Ian robot & also our Segway project. |
Accelerometer/Gyroscope Module + Header Pins

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) This is what we used on our Segway project.
It is a triaxial accelerometer + a dual axis gyroscope. It uses the IDG655 gyro chip & the ADXL335 accelerometer chip. Input 3-5v with an easy to use analog output. This type of board is known as a 5 DOF (5 Degrees Of Freedom). Each board comes with both angled & straight header pins as shown in the picture. |
Ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) This is what we used on the Technic-Ian robot.
5v input <2ma. Ultrasonic distance measuring module, detection range: 2cm-450cm. Accurate to 3mm. Check the arduino code on the Technic-Ian page to see how you can use this sensor. |
DPDT 15A 3 Position Switch

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) Up to 15A 250v AC.
This switch has 3 positions, up, down & a middle position. We love this type of switch, if you had to buy just one large switch for every project then this would be the one. It can be used as a simple on & off switch or used to control a motor forward & backward by reversing the polarity to the motor with the centre switch position turning the motor off. We controlled the electric motor on our fishing kontiki winch with this switch. Every switch will come with the securing nut & the on & off metal sign. DPDT means Double Pole Double Throw, double pole meaning the centre pins can connect with the left or right pins depending on the switch position. Double Throw means that it has 2 rows of pins, 3 on each side. A very versatile switch, or for something a little smaller try the switch below. |
4 AA Battery Holder

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) We used one of these on our Technic-ian robot.
The holders are moulded in Delryn with corrosive resistant nickel plated springs and studs. The connection wires are 150mm long. This holds 4 AA batteries. |

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) We used one of these on our Technic-Ian robot.
Standard 9v battery clip, made with corrosive resistant nickel plated studs. The wires are 150mm long. |
Heatsink Compound

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) Each syringe weighs 1g & contains heatsink compound, also known as thermal grease or paste.
Ideal for conducting heat between 2 surfaces such as on a computer CPU chip. One syringe is plenty for at least 2 large CPUs. We used this on the back of our rectifiers on the wind turbine project & we also used 1 syringe per 2 heat tubes for the Solar Hot Water Project. High conductivity, low bleed, stable at high temperatures. Silicone based with 20% metal oxide. Thermal conductivity: >1.829 W/m-k. Thermal resistance: >0.123 C-in2/w. Dielectric breakdown: >5.0 KV ac. Weight of each tube: 1g. Color: white. Suitable for CPUs & electronic components. |
Small Swivel Castor Wheel

All prices, including shipping, are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) The fixing plate is 32.5 x 38mm.
Overall 38mm high shown in bottom left picture. 25mm diameter solid rubber wheel. We used this on the front of our Technic-Ian robot. Mounting a swivel wheel at the front & having 2 independently controlled driving wheels at the back is the easiest way to make your first robot. |
